The long framing members are red cedar (light weight and rot resistant) the ribs are steam bent white oak (strength). The lashing is tarred seine twine and let into the frame as it wraps over its exterior to eliminate the possibility of fraying the lashing or wearing holes in the fabric. There are no metal fasteners in the boat, even the fabric is lashed to the frame. The finished boat as pictured with the double paddle weighed 23 lbs. A webbed seat with removable backrest has since been added making fishing forays much more comfortable. The craft is 15 years old. The frame is as sound as the day it was built. The fabric, albeit with a few patches and daubs of roof cement, still watertight.
