Porch Construction

A great deal of thought went into designing this open porch to be visually and spaciously appealing  as well as structurally sound and easy to maintain. The deck is separate from the porch framing to facilitate it's eventual replacement with greater ease.  The decorative panels also serve as the bracing for the the posts  and plates without the use of any fasteners or glue. All framing has coved edging unifying the look of all the members regardless of  size. The roof is heavily framed in a traditional timber frame style with jack rafters overlapping the hips. The roof overhangs the stairs; initial roof deck board is 2x material for increased  strength and durability at the eave; facia boards are cedar and pegged at the splices; the ceiling/roof decking is shiplap pine.
